In 1947 he was granted a short service regular army commission for 5 years and a further 3 years in reserve, the short term commission terminating on 31st March 1953 but ultimately being extended again for a further period, making 8 years in total.

As far as geographical postings are concerned he spent time with the Central Mediterranean Forces working with the Greek National Guard in Greece and was taken on strength of Middle East Forces working in Salonika. It is during this period that on a number of occasions the leave due to him was postponed which suggests that the work he was engaged in at the time was of some importance to the Army.

In 1949 he was based at Donnington, August 1953 saw him being accepted for an ESG in RAOC for 9 years in sub rank of Captain under terms AC1, acted as officer commanding (Lt Col) 30 Btn RAOC 7/11/55 – 26/5/56 and in 1955 he embarked for Singapore for duties at no. 3 base ordnance depot to be second in charge, retaining his temporary rank of Major, being made up to permanent Major in 1958 where he worked with the Basic Training Battalion at North Frith Barracks
